MC-1's competition

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0b2; Windows 98):

I thought I would like to start a thread about the MC-1's current competition. Lets TRY to keep it objective. The goal of the thread is to fully understand the competitive offerings (please only comment on processors you know about).
I have found that the participants on this forum are some of the most knowledgeable I hear from. Perhaps as a group we will be able to clarify for ourselves whether the MC-1 upgrade path makes sense. Unfortunately, reviewers are just to wimpy these days. Afraid that manufacturers will stop sending them units to test, everything they write in Audio to Stereophile lately just gushes with pleasantrees.
