Kurt,

: Unfortunately, reviewers are just to wimpy these days. Afraid that manufacturers will stop sending them units to test, everything they write in Audio to Stereophile lately just gushes with pleasantrees.

Umm… I think I'm going to at least defend 'Audio'. Page 32 (from memory), March issue:

"SMR Home Theatre on the World Wide Web is run by British technology journalist Stuart M. Robinson. Equipment reviews are as varied as the contributors themselves; most are written in a conversational tone and as with most online A/V magazines, are subjective. You'll find reviews of products as varied as a Panasonic DVD player, several models of Polk Audio and NHT speakers, and a conrad-johnson amplifier. This site has a policy of posting only positive reviews, not because it's "sold out" (it doesn't accept advertising) but because its contributors don't solicit review samples of product they're dubious about. In fact, I think this site occupies a higher moral ground than most high-end magazines, whether print or online. It doesn't promote expensive gadgets of questionable utility; some of its articles actually debunk the myths behind these gizmos. One article explains anamorphic DVD video; another tells readers how to bainsh ground loops from their systems and offers suggestions on speaker placement for different room locations. These articles alone make SMR Home Theatre well worth visting."

Stuart.
