Actually, on my cable box, the optimum setting for stereo reception is about 4/5 up, and won't pass a decodable stereo signal above that. If your box has an onscreen display capability, try adjusting the volume and look for where it flashes "Best Stereo" or some such thing. Set it there and put away the cable controller--always use the DC-1's volume control. Put the other cable control commands in a learning remote if you have to.

Well, to be technical TV Matrix and Music Logic will split a mono signal between the center and the fronts, depending on how you set steering. And of course there's always 2-channel...not that any of which will sound any better with a mono input... :)
