Upgrades for non-original owners?

Using Mozilla/4.51 [en] (Win95; U):

I am considering buying a used DC-1 and have heard conflicting opinions as to whether is can be used towards the purchase of a MC-1 in the future.

I know the same unit cannot be used twice as a trade-up (serial numbers are tracked) but do not know whether a unit which has not been used as a trade-up, but belongs to a different owner can be used in the future.

I did call Lexicon about this, but have not heard back from them, and need to decide on a unit fairly quickly.

Further to these questions - does anyone know what a fair price for a used DC-1, fully loaded (DTS, etc) is?
