Answer: The MC-1 can accept 96kHz PCM digital signals through the Expansion port inputs. These Expansion inputs feed the D/A converters directly, bypassing all digital signal processing including the crossovers. Note: Although there are many DVD-Video players currently available that feature 24-bit/96kHz D/A converters, they are required to down-sample these signals to 48kHz and truncate them to 16-bits before being output as a digital audio signal. This is to satisfy content providers who are concerned with copy protection of "better than CD quality" digital outputs. The only way to utilize this option on the MC-1 (currently) is to connect the digital audio output of certain DVD players (ones with true 96kHz digital audio outputs,i.e. Pioneer) to expansion input A. Currently, there is a handful of 2-channel 24-bit/96kHz audio only DVD's. These DVD's use a provision in the DVD-Video specification for 2-channels of 24-bit/96kHz PCM and are not to be confused with the forth coming DVD-Audio specification. Last reviewed: 02/18/99 "
