Official Lexicon DC-1 to MC-1 Upgrade Release.

Let's be clear here--this is an issue of tax law not Lexicon policy. Taxes are assessed by the state on the value of the equipment trading hands. When you trade-in a car, taxes are calculated on the selling price of the car, before any trade-in allowance (which is figured as a separate transaction for tax purposes). Although it affects the amount you pay, it does not affect your tax liability for the selling price of the car. That's why it's always good practive to negotiate the lowest selling price first, then negotiate the trade-in allowance. At least with cars--audio dealers aren't likely going to be as flexible with DC-1 trade-ins. They're probably going to charge full retail and apply the trade-in allowance to that. Hope this helps clarify, Philip Brandes
