In contrast to what Andre has said I've heard that non-parallel walls can be of some help. Also possibly even more important would be if you could have your walls 'tilted' so that reflected sound is aimed at your ceiling somewhat (5% or more) that would be usefull too.

I totally agree with Andre about minimizing extraneous noises would be a great idea. E. Brad Meyer (who occasionally has visited the SMR forums) has a media room that I'm told is so silent you can hear the blood flowing in you ears. That would be NICE! His room is built using double walls to sound proof it and I believe all the studs and wall board was mounted to rubber shock mounts to isolate them.
