Richard,

Let me add to what Philip and Shawn have already said. I wouldn't worry too much about SNR. By itself, SNR is an almost worthless number because of its arbitrary weighting. Two identical SNR measurements can sounds very different. Much more useful is an SNR vs. frequency measurement, which unfortunately no one provides. On top of that, no one measures SNR in situ --- SNR in a real system where ground interactions and other electrical parasitics due to the design of the devices being interfaced can make the system noisier. That is, no one measures how well a unit can maintain or protect its SNR. So don't worry about it, and listen to both units.
