Richard,A couple of points. First, you have heard other people say the EAD theatermaster does "stereo better" than the Lexicon. There is a lot of less than scientific opinion out there about the sound of plain two channel electronics. Many will wax poetically about how great high-end preamp x sounds versus something else. IMHO most of this bunk. Under controlled blind listening conditions, the differences are likely to be inaudible or at best extremely subtle. Second, A lot of processors out there can do plain old Dolby digital or DTS quite well, most use off the shelf chips to do it. Nobody has the experience Lexicon does in extracting and enhancing sound fields. They do basic research in psychoacoustics. David Griesinger of Lexicon is one of the leading experts in soundfields and how humans perceive them. He has published numerous papers in the Audio Engineering Society and has chaired working groups in this area. None of Lexicon's competitors can say that. The fruits of his research go into Lex's products. I personally don't listen to two channel stereo anymore because I can always find a sound mode with the DC-1 that sounds better. Your mileage may vary. - kent h
