The 500 is infra red and its the common language of almost all AV components that can be controlled but IR sending/receiving is unrelable because it needs line of sight to operate at all times and if your system is behind you, you need to be a controtionist to make it work and if you have the zone two set up you have to run back in the room to get it to work but worst of all are macros, that miss a step becauce the remote was obsured uh!

Having been there and experienced these hicups, the 700t is the answer to all these problems, it comes in two parts a little box that is hidden out of sight that you connect little senders to it that cover the IR eyes of the equipment, and that can control things with RS232 (yes its bilingual) like MC1 and its fairly expanderable it sends the commands to the equipment and the touchsrceen sends radio frequencys to it, which as you know do not need line of sight. So no more missed commands (in theory anyway)and mobilty so you can take you touch screen round the home and have control.
But I still want the touch on the lapel
voice command and swishing doors but I digress........don't think I would fit in the uniform though.

The down side of the 700t compared to the 500 is that you can program the 500 on the fly with the 700 you need a program/PC and/or the help of a dealer, also it can't be networked like Phast and Crestron but its a lot cheaper and just as versatile in all other areas that count.

You will like the 500.
Andy at lexicon is a wiz with the 700t and I am sure he would be pleased to help you.

hope this helps
