I suggest that you check out the Headroom website linked below --- they have all sorts of systems for all price ranges, as well as subjective evaluations of many headphones.

I use a Sennheiser 580 with a HeadRoom Supreme connected to the tape-out of my preamp, and have been quite happy with this combo for about 5 years now, although this may be a bit out of your price range. I would suggest getting the best headphone you can get (and that would be the Sennheiser 580 or 600, IMO), and use whatever's left for the amp.
