Will DCs or MC-1 work w/DVD-Audio???

The format was (is) technically underdeveloped so release dates were always missed because all hiccups hadn't been ironed out. Cart before the horse situation. That shouldn't happen with DVD-Audio, it'll be working before titles are announced. True, but the technical obstacle isn't the biggest stumbling block, in my opinion. It's making a convincing market case for studios to invest in making titles available in yet another format, when DVD is still just hitting its stride. I think we audiophiles lose sight of the fact that Joe Sixpack isn't interested in replacing the player and processor he just purchased for what is only an incremental refinement in sound quality that probably neither his system nor his ears are capable of resolving. Add to which my own impressions of 24/96 audio at HiFi '98--admittedly show conditions aren't ideal, but the differences I heard were underwhelming. I can see the appeal of higher resolution for discriminating music lovers, but this is really preaching to the choir. The majority of A/V buyers out there aren't in that category. And when it comes to films, when there's a video stimulus to compete with, there's even less imperative for higher resolution audio. I'd love to see--make that hear--a better audio format. But I'm pessimistic that the bottom line $$$ will persuade the less, ahem, purist studio mentality. Cheers, Philip
