Connection of Future Digital Amplifiers

Posted by Scott Boyd [IP: 206.191.5.69] on April 14, 1999 at 11:26:40
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.0; Windows 95):

Many speaker and amplifier companies appear to be working on digital amplifiers and speakers (Meridian already offers digital active speakers). In this scenario the audio signal would be digital from the source right through to the speaker where it would be converted into analog. Such a system would have many advantages including lower distortion, flatter frequency response, and possibly even the capacity to correct for room problems in the time domain. Since the MC-1 does not have digital outputs for the various channels, how will it be compatible with digital amplifiers and/or digital active speakers?
