Well, sort of. Remember that in an actual theater, the surround speakers are meant to be located on the sides and/or the rear. And theaters don't have sophisticated processing to make the side surround speakers sound different than the rears. And some theaters don't actually have any speakers in the rear at all. In any event, this layout means that fly-overs don't sound right. Thus the need for EX. I suspect that a theater using EX would be set up as follows LF, CF, RF, LS, RS, CR with only the new center rear speaker actually giving a rear signal. Still, Lucas was clearly mistaken (or else the standard is about to change again without notice [G]).
