Static/crackles on some DC-1 inputs

Posted by Andrew Krieg [IP: 169.207.134.17] on January 30, 1999 at 13:52:41:

My DC-1 has been working perfectly fine for the last couple of months (this was a floor model I bought, so it is actually an original DC-1 with 1.0 software). Yesterday when I turned it on using the VCR1 input, there is a terrible crackly static noise that accompanies the audio. This was never there before.

The TV input also has this noise. The VCR2 and VDISC inputs (which are hooked up to DVD and Laserdisc players respectively) do NOT have the static. The static remains even if the VCR on VCR1 is turned off and if the TV is turned off.

The static is primarily on the front and center channels. If is much worse the more amps I have turned on.

All signs seem to point to a Lexicon malfunction, but why the audio is OK on
2 of the inputs is beyond me. The unit is under warranty, and I plan to take it in for a 3.0 upgrade when they are available. Any ideas on what I should have the techs look for when I take it in? Any other theories as to what may be causing the static?
