: Why there is such a big fuss for the
: Lexicon to have balanced outputs
: is beyond me. Also, if another pre/pro
: has them, that unit is viewed to be so
: much better. (interesting
: thought?) Why on earth a line level
: signal that is run for maybe 25 feet
: (though almost always less, as the
: amps are very close to the location of
: the pre/pro in most homes) needs to be
: balanced is beyond understanding.

A week ago or so I think I stated why here http://www.smr-forums.com/forums/forum_3a/messages/758.html.

The world of high end A/V is full of Voodoo snake oil and some people spend thousands of dollars on interconnect wire. Yes I think it is a stupid waste of money. But as long as the cable companies continue to spew out their propaganda then I say balanced lines are viable, if only because they actually can make an improvement! Which is more than the cable makers can prove.

Is this sensible or needed in the home? No, I don't think so.

Now if the consumer mass of the high end starts believing balanced is good then those manufacturers who choose to ignore it will be hurt.

It's the 96kHz and 192kHz mania though that I believe will prevail, again without any sound engineering, Nyquist be damned, and YES I know what the studies have shown. Lexicon has bowed down to what they perceive the high market desires/requires and I think it is a good move on their part. Not having that 96kHz word could of lost a lot of sales for them, consumer mentality is really stupid this way. But what do you do? Give them the buzzwords and they will come.

Me? I can't wait to get those 192kHz recordings so I can hear the bats flying around! (:

Actually I plan to get several more happy years out of my DC-1.
