Bizarre video problem with MC-1

Posted by Brian Paulsen [IP: 192.147.65.83] on May 26, 1999 at 12:49:01
Using Mozilla/4.06 [en] (X11; I; Linux 2.2.9 i686):

Everything works perfectly fine in Zone-1.

However, Zone-2 is a little bizarre. I have an old TV hooked up in the bedroom that I have connected via an RF cable. To get the RF signal, I have the Zone-2 composite connection going to a Radio Shack RF modulator which then goes to the TV.

Here's the bizarre part. When I watch something in Zone-2 that isn't connected via S-Video (such as my CD player's on-screen display) the picture comes out fine. When I watch something that is connected via S-Video (such as the DVD player) the picture is absolutely terrible. If I hook the RF modulator up to the Zone-1's composite output, the picture looks absolutely fine no matter what source I select.

Finally, if I hook up the Zone-2 outputs directly to my main TV, the picture looks fine no matter what source I select.

As I said, this problem is a bit bizarre. Zone-2 looks perfectly fine if I hook it up directly to my TV. It looks bad if I use a RF modulator and a source that uses the S-Video input (remember that the Zone-2 output is still composite) and it looks fine if I use the RF modulator connected to the Zone-1 composite.

It appears to me that something is happening to the Zone-2 S-Video-to-Composite function that is causing troubles to the RF modulator.

Any ideas?

Brian
