Purchasing used DC-1's/software versions

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 95):

After admiring this unit from a far for a couple years the price is finally in my range. I can get a used DC-1 with the 2.?? software for $1500. What are the main differences in the software upgrade(besides the remote) and is it worth it? I can always upgrade later, correct? Second, does $1500 sound like a good deal for a full loaded DC-1 with out the most current upgrade?
