$1500 sounds like a good price, but make sure it's an AC-3 or DTS unit.

The V3 upgrade is offers a wide range of sonic improvements, from better bass management to enhanced surround algorithms. It is defintitely worth the $300, and yes you can always install it after you get the unit.

If the unit is AC-3 only, you can also opt for the DTS upgrade at $500, which will include the new V3 software and remote (so essentially you're getting DTS for $200--if you want it).

Either way, I think you'll be very happy with the DC-1.
