MC-1 User Survey

Overall I'm very satisified with my MC-1. 2)For those who traded up from a DC-1. In your experience has it been a worthwhile upgrade? Sonic benefit cearly worth the added cost ($2,500)? For me it was worthwhile. My upgrade from a loaded 20 bit DC-1 was $2200. I'm not sure if I would say that sonically alone the improvement was worth $2200 since I've never heard a 24 bit DC-1 with V3.XX software, but the combination of improved sound, improved video, plenty of digital and s-video inputs, 24/96 support, expandability for future formats through the direct inputs, AND being on the front end of a product's life cycle instead of the end (better chance for timely software enhancements) made it a fairly easy choice for me. 3)Any major dissapointments? If you had known of these problems ahead of time, would you have traded up to an MC-1? My biggest dissapointment with the MC-1 is the same as my biggest dissapointment with the DC-1. I wish more effects were available for more sampling rates. For instance, I can't use Panorama with DSS music channels since they are 48K. I knew this when I upgraded. Did it effect my decision? Not much. 4)Has there been any signal locking problems or other proplems you have experienced that are frequent enough to "get under your skin"? IMHO, this "NO AUDIO" problem has been blown a bit out of proportion. I don't mean to step on any toes here, because I understand that my views on this topic do not invalidate someone else's different view. This may be a big issue for some people, but it isn't for me. Just as most people probably don't care about Panorama on DSS. :) Anyway, I've experienced this twice in the just over 2 months I've had my MC-1. I'll will admit the first time was a little disconcerting. But having read that a FEW people are seeing this VERY INTERMITTENTLY made me realize that it isn't just my unit, Lexicon is investigating it and will fix it. The fact that it happens so rarely will make it a bear to track down. Some may view this as wearing blinders. I view it as having faith in Lexicon. 5)Do you recommend the MC-1? Yes, I would. Lat night I rented "A Bugs Life" on AC-3 DVD. Wow! Killer surround. Made me love the Lex even more. For me, a 7.1 setup and Logic 7 (especially what it can do with 4-2-4 matrix encoded software), along with Panorama, more than make up for any little inconveniences the MC-1 has. As I'm sure most will point out, however, this is a decision that everyone will have to make for themselves. Brion Frost
