I find the blue display far easier to read from my seating position, which is nearly directly across and about 12-feet away from the unit. I couldn't read the DC-1 amber display unless I was much closer. But we don't want to talk about my aging eyesight! ;-)

Interesting, I find the blue display harder to read from about the same distance. I find it very tough to focus on blue lettering over a black background. I had thought this was a general statement about the ability of the human eye so I'm surprised to hear that others aren't having the same experience.
