Using Mozilla/3.01-C-MACOS8 (Macintosh; I; PPC):

In absolute terms, the human eye has greatest acuity with yellow on black, so all other things being equal (especially contrast), it's not surprising that some might find the amber display with its high yellow-content more readable.

However, there's also the question of aesthetics. I just happen to prefer the blue color--I think it looks classier.
