MC1 Logic 7 Problem

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.0; AOL 4.0; Windows 95:

I was watching the VCR (2-channel analogue) thru Logic 7. No problems for about two hours of viewing, then a sound like a door closing (my wife says 'pan russling'; my daughter says 'someone walking up-stairs) began to come from the surround and rear speakers. The sound came from those speakers simultaneously, about every twenty seconds. Switching the MC-1 to 2-channel eliminated the noise. Typically I listen to digital sources, CD or DVD, and have not noticed this problem. Any thoughts as to cause?
