Michael,

Your frustration is quite understandable and unfortunate. Looking at the symptoms you describe--namely, the fact that you are able to get AC-3 processing, but only intermittently, I strongly suspect the chip or one of the cards isn't seated firmly enough and is only making sporadic contact.

This could have happened if the unit got jostled during shipping. I once got a new computer with display problems, and upon opening it I found the video card was seated at an angle, with some of the pins barely touching the socket. Pushed it in straight and haven't had a problem since.

If you feel comfortable popping the hood, this would be easy enough for you or your dealer to check for. Honestly, I can't say what the problem is for sure. But one thing to keep in mind is that Lexicon has delivered hundreds of these units and we'd certainly have heard about this if it was a bug rather than an isolated incident.

Again, it's regrettable and an unfortunate act of fate that it happened to you. But in these circumstances, the real measure of a company is how quickly they move to resolve the problem and get you taken care of. Rather than deciding whether or not to cancel your order, I would e-mail Andy, Bart, or Kyle--I'll bet you get a quick response.

This isn't to minimize your annoyance, just to encourage you not to make a decision you might have second thoughts about down the road.

Good luck,
Philip Brandes
