Greg,

: 1) the new DD ES ? will require two center outs,

This is only true on conventional 5.1 channel processors. Because the MC-1 (and DC-1/2) is already 7.1, Lexicon does not require an extra center out, they will support DD ES via the existing rear channel outs, sending the extra channel to the rears in mono. This might actually be a step down from the Logic 7-derived stereo rears (only time and comparison will tell)--but you will certainly have the DD EX option--and with a software-only implementation (compared to the much pricier solutions to retrofit other units--or replace them outright).

: 2) many of us who spend 6K on a processor have two subs therefore two additional audio outs seems a natural

If you are asking for an extra sub output jack, as in other processors that offer it this would be done by putting a y-split inside the chassis instead of outside--no benefit if you use a quality external Y-connector (Monster makes a very good plug). Given the impact on an already tight form factor and the limited number of people who use two subs, I think Lexicon made the right call here.

If you're asking for software to perform discrete stereo sub outputs, this would require recoding all the software and would certainly introduce more complications than it's worth. But you can already get discrete sub info with the MC-1--put your subs directly to the sides and externally crossing over from your side outs with speaker config set to large sides, small everywhere else, and no sub--LF will be routed discretely to the sides. This is how the Bass Enhance feature was designed to operate at its best.

Cheers,
Philip Brtandes
