Philip,

: To be even more explicit here: Daniel, M&K makes superb HT speakers, but they have nothing in their line that can compete for music listening with the NHT 2.9s/3.3s. On the other hand, M&K make great all-purpose subs, and I prefer their subs to NHTs old SWPseries (haven't heard their newset).

I'm working my way through the M&K loudspeaker range at the moment, the distributor seems to have taken a liking to me and will supply gear just so that I can listen to it. The M&K line is very different from the NHT 2.9 or 3.3, there are no full-range designs, instead all are intended to be used with a powered sub-woofer. I've been very impressed for both music and movies by the S-5000 and S-1C, while the LCR-55 are a tad bright. I'd be extremely hard-pressed to chose the 3.3 over the S-1C, in fact the added flexibility of a separate sub-woofer (for a similar overall cost) would sway me to the M&K.

I enjoyed my time with three NHT SuperOnes - excellent loudspeaker when carefully positioned but in a very competitive area of the market. On the other hand the SuperTwos are unrivalled at the price. The system Bill Bush put together for me was SuperTwo L/R and SuperOne as centre and rear. Discounting the need for a sub-woofer for 5.1 sources, the Two/One system is hard to beat and I'd put that forward as a candidate.

: Specifically, the Denon offers the ability to hook up two pairs of surrounds (dipole and monopole), but you have to toggle between them--you can't use both at once.

Actually, you can use both sets at once but they receive identical signals (with time alignment), you're right, there is no steering logic between the two.

Stuart.
