Thank you for the response. My situation sounds very similar to yours, so I think I will try the upgrade at a budget price to start (use an A/B switch for the input to my two channel amp and use some existing speakers).
Two questions-
1. should I place the speakers 10" behind my head, or mount them elsewhere (higher or lower or in the corners)?
2. the two channel amp I have (an old Accuphase) is probably better than the 6 channel B&K (AV6000) - should I use the Accuphase to power the front L&R speakers or the rear speakers. If I do the fronts, it certainly won't "match" the center channel amp - does that matter?Thanks again,
