Matt,

1) Try it both ways. Temp hookup of course. Use a stepladder or boxes to "place" the speakers for a test.
I think the corners will end up working better.

2) I would say use the AV6000 to power the (3)fronts & (2)rears.
Use the other amp for the sides.

Trial & error is the best way to see what sounds best. It doesn't have to look pretty until you are satisfied with the sound.
