Not when you want to play a 24/96 disc it isn't. The difference involves more than the DAC chip--it's really a question of implementation. The MC-1 has the architecture to support the higher bit rate, the DC-1 does not. You can therefore feed a 24/96 digital input to the MC-1 (via a Pioneer transport) and listen at full resolution.
