:Feeding a 24/96 CD to the direct-to-DAC MC-1 inputs certainly exploits the
processing capabilities beyond 16/44.

Exploit means to employ to the greatest advantage.

Professor Kelin Kuhn, the Rane Corporation et al. have noted that the dynamic range of human hearing is 120 dB and that the upper frequency limit is circa 20,000 Hz (unless you're a male over 12 -- then the upper limit is much less). 24/96 implies a bandwidth of approximately 48,000 Hz and dynamic range of 144 dB.

Due to ambient noise and audio hardware limitations, the practical dynamic range in a home environment or recording venue is <96 dB (Rane Corporation says <70 dB -- see RaneNote 135). With these constraints 24/96 is NOT employed to its greatest possible advantage.

Cheers,

Jim
