:Are these DVD only players or LD/DVD combos? I'm looking for a high-end LD/DVD combo, but all I've found is the Theta Voyager which I don't particularly like (and think is overpriced). Do you know of any others?

Well, I own the Pioneer DVL-919 which is their latest model for a LD/DVD/VCD combo player. It is the "standard" version of their Elite DVL-91 which actually doesn't feature full 24/96 processing unlike the 919 which came out a few months after the 91.

I got it about 2 months ago and I am pretty satisfied with it. I don't have my MC-1 yet and don't have any 24/96 material so I can't say if the 919 will output 24/96. If you drop me a message as a reminder, I'll take a look at the manual and see what it says...I do remember reading something that says it will downsample it to 48kHz before sending it out the S/PDIF output which I believe is the maximum limit for S/PDIF.

The price difference is pretty big, the 91 is about 2k (1.3k street) and the 919 lists at 1.2k but I got it for $750 at a dealer who matched a price I saw on the Internet.

Cool thing is that the 919 will show the pluge pattern displaying "blacker than black" NTSC information which helps you set your display's brightness. I've read that even some of the more expensive THX Ultra DVD players won't. It also does anamorphic to 4:3 letterbox pretty well, I haven't seen any distracting artifacts.

Only thing I miss on the 919 is that there is no jog and shuttle on the control and I can't figure out how to get my Pronto to learn the IR command to go slow-mo (composite time-delayed IR transmission it seems).
