Neither of 'em. Griesinger expounds on the "Bass Enhance" theory in the following paper:

Speaker Placement, Externalization, and Envelopment in Home Listening
Preprint Number: 4860 Convention: 105 1998-09

In this case, the paper is available in .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) form from the AES web site - $5 if you're an AES member and $10 if you're not.

Same link as before - simply search for "Griesinger" or the pre-print number.
