DC-2 Video Inputs

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; AOL 4.0; Windows 98):

I am told that I can either have all S-Video inputs or all Composite video inputs and that I cannot mix these. If so, can someone please tell me why ?Also, if I want to hook up a VCR, I cannot use S-Video.
Any help on this will be appreciated.
