Hi Will,

First, I would suggest you follow the methodical setup plan Donald wrote. It should get you pretty close to optimal sound.

Second, the 3.3s are quite capable of playing loudly, and I would not worry about them being damaged easily.

The low bass problem is interesting. The Radio Shack meters are known to be highly variable in their bass response, and you may have bought one that has especially poor response.

I use a sub with my 3.3s --- it's a home-built, sealed isobaric design with two NHT 1259 drivers in a face-to-face configuration. It's connected to the sub output of the MC-1 with a 40 Hz low pass filter.
