subs

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

I have not, until now, had any extra bass other than a pair of NHT 3.3's and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for bass. System is 3.3 in front and AC-2 all the way around. Settings are large up front and 40HZ X-over for the AC-2's and subwoofer. This probably pushes the AC-2's to their limit but I have not noticed anything terrible happening. I just built a sub based on the NHT 1259 sub and can build more for a very modest investment. I currently have the one sub hooked up to the LFE. I have heard a lot of people say how great subs are when used with the sides speakers for the bass enhance feature. Now I am considering building three more subs, one more for LFE and one for each side. I have a small room (14 x 20 x vaulted) but always enjoy an excuse to tweak. Is there a noticeable improvement to going full range on the sides? Perhaps I could reuse the sub currently in the front and use it for one of the sides and leave the 3.3's large and get rid of the LFE (will this defeat side subs as most of the LFE will be summed to the fronts?). Lastly, does anyone recommend a good external crossover and a stand alone eq for bass only(other than the Richter Scale)?
