James,

This is a Lexicon owners forum, so you're not likely to get an unbiased opinion here.

FWIW, I once overheard a salesman at my local dealer making a similar pitch.

I asked him if the B&K could generate stereo surrounds for Pro-Logic, even in a 5-channel setup. He said, well, no it couldn't.

I asked him if the B&K supported 7-channel surround. He said no, it doesn't.

I asked if the B&K offered any proprietary surround modes for music. He said, no it doesn't.

I asked him to explain his claim about the B&K being a superior preamp. He said he was talking about strictly 2-channel use, not surround.

I asked if he had the Lex set up to demo in 7.1. He said he didn't.

I asked if he even had a Lex out on the floor. He didn't.

This is an "official" Lexicon dealer.

It's sad, but too often dealers will not give you all the relevant factors on which to base a decision.

Are you looking for a two-channel preamp or a surround processor? You need to settle this for yourself.

As a surround processor, there is no contest by any standard--the DC-2 is superior.

As a preamp, the DC-2 specs are very good (better than the DC-1) and many dealers sling the old platitudes about Lexicon based on the DC-1.

I would insist on a side-by-side comparison, using the DC-2 both as a preamp and in its Logic 7 mode, and decide for yourself.

Cheers,
Philip Brandes
