Question about Bass Enhancement and LFE

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (X11; I; IRIX64 6.4 IP30):

Why set the center to 120 Hz? Is this the "Bass Split" function? I don't get what it's supposed to do. (I have all set to 80 except the sides set to large and XO'd at 80 by outboard XO.)
