Actually Don, Josh is absolutely correct in his reply. Just to amplify further, most DVDs released are in fact dual layer. On most the layer change goes by unnoticed because the disc is well-mastered and your DVD player doesn't hiccup when the chage occurs. Some discs give some players a problem, hence the momentary freeze (or with a few disc/player combinations, a total freeze) during whcih audio lock is lost prompting the MC-1 (and DC-1, my DC-1 did it too) to indicate the lost signal status.

As to Titanic - as I understand it the original plan was for a full blown SE which would have required the issue to be spread to 2 single sides discs or on one (in fact the very first) dual sided/dual layer disc (AKA DVD18, two sides, two layers per side), requiring the disc to be flipped. As I now understand it, in the interests of getting the disc out sooner, it will have less extras and only be a single side, dual layer disc. I have heard that the SE version of T2 that Cameron is planning, will be a DVD18 disc.
