MC-1 makes whining sound

Using Mozilla/4.6 [en] (WinNT; I):

My MC-1 contiunually makes a whining sound when it is powered on. Is this the same in everyone's unit? I know there is a DTS fan but that is only supposed to kick in when you have a DTS source. My sound is continuous.

The MC-1 is also warm all of the time. I have read that this too is normal, and I think I will start to power it off when it is not in use. Should I be concerned that I leave my LDD-1 on top of my MC-1? It only covers a little of the venting on top, but I wouldn't want to overheat and fry the MC-1.
