Bass Enhance Test

I haven't bought my sides speakers or subs yet but when I do I am planning on getting satellites and subs. The benefits are the same as for front sub/sat systems, which is the THX recommended set-up. Namely, increased ease of placement of sides at the correct height on the wall, the ability to aim the speakers, cleaner sound from less box resonance, increased volume output from reduced bass frequency requirements to the sides, dedicated sub with it's own overload protection, much deeper bass response from sub, greater low frequency volume output from sub, etc. The only benefits that I see for full range sides are reduced wiring (only if the sub doesn't have speaker level in/outs, and even if it doesn't the wiring is so cheap compared to the system that it's a very minor factor), and you don't have to balance the volume levels of the sub & side (which should be quite easy either by ear or with a test disc & spl). However, you lose all the above mentioned benefits. Doug, I see no problems with a 45ft run. Remember, most of the interference that you MIGHT pick up will be in the frequencies above 80Hz. As long as you don't run the cable next to power lines then you shouldn't have a problem. Have I missed anything here? BE is new to all of us so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. To me side subs seem the best, but maybe I'm missing something. I still haven't bought anything yet so give me your feedback. Josh
