Interesting suggestion.

I would be inclined to support this for the volume controls, but not for the effects. Here's why:

If I'm hitting the volume controls at all, the chances are very good I want the change to happen right now (e.g., lower it for a phone call or a conversation or whatever). This is likely regardless of how I might have my display set.

However, the effects button is different. If I have my OSD enabled but front panel off (as folks who prefer minimum distraction from equipment lights are prone to do), I'd first want to verify the current effect before changing it. The only way to do this is the way it works now--have the OSD show the current effect, then change it with the next button push. Otherwise, it would be too easy to inadvertently change effect, then lose track of which effect you want to get back to (i.e., you'd have to do a mental check to switch to the opposite button to get back to the effect you started with, otherwise you find yourself cycling through a whole bunch of effects).

So my vote is to back this proposal the entire 50%.

Cheers,
Philip Brandes
