I vote to leave it as is. For the volume control, I don't consider it a pain if no change is initiated with a single tap. Yes, if I want the volume changed, I want it now. But let's be realistic, here. If you're going to change the volume, are you going to change it by only 1 dB ? More than likely you will change it by a minimum of 3 dB, since we can't easily perceive volume changes any smaller than that. Even if you could, that small of a change in volume would be useless, say, if someone entered the room and wanted to start a conversation, or if you had to answer the telephone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you had to initiate a volume change of more than 1 dB, either holding down the key pad or giving it two or three taps in rapid succession will immediately change the volume. Personally, whenever I want to change the volume, I like to use the 2 - key combination which changes the volume in 5 dB increments, or use the one button MUTE to execute an immediate large change in volume.

Just my $0.02

Bill
