Many folks thought this programming was stored in the remote when it was really done at the DC-1 end--the remote always sent out exactly the same code
for each key.

I think the confusion here is that, as you say, with V3 the whole effect selection process works differently--there is a dedicated key for each effect, which
cannot be changed. Thus you're always stuck using a Shift+Key combination for Music Surround (though this really isn't any harder than having to use an
ACCY+Input Key combo).

So Ken, the answer is no you can't assign effects to keys any way you want, but you can still select your effect of choice, and for the main 8 effects it's
simpler because you don't have to hold down a modifier key--just push one button.:

Thanks, for the response. The name is Kent. Yes, as you guessed, I have the pre v3 SW. I am also aware the ACCY+input buttons are a function of the DC-1, not the remote.
As I mentioned in the response to Stuart, I programmed my dc-1 ACCY+input keys to the 8 effects I use most often and then programmed my rc2000 remote to give me one button access to them.
By your comment on being stuck having to use the SHIFT+Key, does this mean that I can still set the dc-1 v3/MC-1 to choose an arbitrary effect with a SHIFT+key ?
