How important is build quality?

Posted by Brian Paulsen [IP: 192.147.65.114] on April 30, 1999 at 14:37:54
Using Mozilla/4.04 [en] (WinNT; U):

I can feel a flame war starting... but, how important is build quality anyways?
Why should I care if the Lexicon feels light when I don't plan on picking it up once it's installed in my system? Why would I care if somebody could easily knock it around, when I plan to have it well out of the way of where people are walking?

I know that there are some people who consider any piece of A/V equipment garbage unless it weighs X pounds. Is there really any rationale to that?

Personally, when people brag about how much their Krell or Theta weighs, I kinda wonder what Krell and Theta are doing wrong to make their units so heavy. Am I missing something?
