Hi Andrew. First let me say that it speaks volumes on the consumer commitment and humility (rare in this industry) that Lexicon has when you reach out and ask for advise. I really believe that this forum can be a windfall of customer information for you. Thank you for visiting us here and I hope that you will become a long time resident.

I prefer the way that the volume currently is controlled. I live in an apartment, well University of Calgary Dormatory actually, and while the 13'X14' cinderblock rooms are pretty soundproof, I still must be careful of volume levels.

As we all know, clean sound can be played quite loud and once your ears have adjusted you sometimes don't realize how loud it is. I like the fact that I can visually check the OSD volume level before changing it as I have the unit display permanently turned off. I also use this feature to check the operating parameters while a movie is playing, like whether I have remembered to change Fifth Element menu from ProLogic to DD5.1 or not.

I also have a 2-ch system in my room. Yes I have two systems in the same dorm room! The pre-amp, a Classe CP-50 (also with defeatable display) changes the volume as soon as you hit the button. I find myself hitting volume to check that it is not too loud for late evening listening (it's so easy to get carried away) and the volume goes up. I then have to turn it back down. This dosen't happen with the Lexicon. One hit and I know where I am, then if I want to change I have that choice.

A recommendation. The Classe display is off until you make a change, at which point it comes on again for a few seconds. This could be another option for the Lex's setup. It would allow the OSD to be turned off so you don't disturb others when making a change, but it would still allow you to change something using the Lex unit display. It would also still allow the Lex display to be off and undistracting for most of the movie.

Sorry for the long post, but I thank you for your interest.
Sincerely,
Josh
