Brian,

Now where's that flame thrower of mine. Shoot, out of napalm.

I have mixed feelings about this. One one hand logic says that I'm really only listening to the circuitry and it could be housed in a cardboard box and it would sound the same. On the other hand I like well built enclosures. I also like my stuff to look nice. I have open racks for both my audio and theater systems and I like the peices to look at least decent. Personally the DC-1 kind of grew on me. I think that I'll order the 19" brackets for the MC-1, all my Brystons are 19". That way all you really see is the front, which looks OK I hope, still haven't touched one.

I think the heavy idea came from amps. If it had a really good oversized power supply, transformer, caps, etc, then it would be heavier than the same powered amp with a poorer supply. I don't have an amp under 50lbs, and my Classe's almost a hundred! That having been said, I wonder how much of the weight of high end components comes from the overly thick face plates. Now I appreciate that it looks solid and manly, but it certainly adds to the cost and *PROBABLY* dosen't improve the sound (as an engineer I always have to be open to the fact that I could be wrong). All of this assumes that the piece has sturdy enough connections. The Monster test is usually a good one. I have mostly Monster wire for theater and cringed everytime I unhooked from the DC-1, I hear the MC-1 is better. Yipee!

Anyway, I'm still on the fence. One half of my brain says that it dosen't make an improvement and only adds to the cost. The other half just thinks it looks so cool.

Josh
