I prefer the system work the way it does. An extra click is not hard, and it is nice to confirm the current setting (esp. with effect - let's face it, a one db change up or down doesn't hurt me) before changing it.

I do not like the ideas which factor in what is currently on the display. This is because the results of pressing a button would be non-deterministic - sometimes it changes something, sometimes it doesn't, and that is really nasty on software programs that try to keep track of the state of the unit is by knowing what IR codes were sent to them... (having the RS232 port on the MC1 really helps in this regard, as the current state can always be _read_).
