When you say you want the volume to stay active for 15 seconds, does that include display of the volume bar as well? If so, I wouldn't want that feature because I'd have to look at the volume bar for 15 seconds everytime I adjust the volume. But I'm not sure if any other alternatives are better as well. For example, if you have the volume active for 15 seconds, but the volume bar is not displayed, I think that would lead to a confusing interface, since you may or may not press the volume control within 15 seconds again, and the volume would react differently. I think it's important to keep the interface consistent and easily predictable, if nothing else.
