Mixdown of 5.1 to 2 Channel on MC1
Posted by Ron Sellner [IP: 206.102.3.80] on October 25, 1999 at 18:27:34 I normally listen to music DVD's using Logic 7/5.1 or Music Logic. I happened to switch to 2 channel and thought I heard more audio information in the higher frequencies - more of a sense of a live performance. I tried the same switching using PCM from a CD on the same player. In this instance Logic 7 sounded much better, as it always has on both my DC1 and my MC1. Would the algorithm the MC1 uses for mixing down 5.1 to 2 channel account for this? I am driving L&R F Celestion A3's with two Bryston 7BST's and a Celestion AC4 center channel biamped with a Krell KAV250A. All three channels are measuring 75dB from the internal test tone or with the Video Essentials DVD, so the difference is not due to SPL's. It appears to my ears that the presentation is better coming from just the two L&R F speakers than from all seven. Has anyone else experienced this?
