EX confusion

I don't think I've ever encountered so much mis-information about a new home theatre technology as I have with EX, which my be why I've written three articles about its introduction already.

Right again, EX sounds dubious with non-EX encoded material but excellent with specifically encoded movies.

Correct, that and the fact that we already have a seven-channel architecture.

No, it wouldn't involve another D/A (see above) but it would involve significant changes to the Dolby Digital bitstream syntax and added complexities of folding the new channel back into LS and RS for five-channel systems. Much confusion stems from the use of the term "6.1", which is incorrect when used to describe EX.
